“Knowledge is power!” Francis Bacon advocated the importance of reading hundreds of years ago. In the present day, reading has been developed to be a great hobby. There are many great facilities such as bookstores and libraries. These great facilities encourage people to read frequently by increasing access to books. Reading is a great hobby. It improves the mind of the individual reader, and induces the progress of humanity.

Perhaps the easiest activity for anyone to do is reading because it is completely free and accessible nowadays. When I arrived in Chicago, I observed that I could find books everywhere. I felt surprised that there were three bookstores near my home. I always go to bookstores to read books with my family. When I enter the bookstore, I can feel freshness and ease filling the air. Everyone there looks so peaceful. The staff there is also very kind and patient. Bookstores are a great refuge for reading. In addition, I enjoy the library in this city as well. I usually go to the Chicago public library to borrow some books. I also study in library. It’s convenient to do research there. These great facilities are open to everybody and provide good environment for people who enjoy reading.

Reading is a good habit. We read for study or just for fun. Most of my teachers have told me that if I want to achieve a high level of English, I was supposed to read by myself above and beyond attending classes. Through reading books that are relevant to my major, I could learn more knowledge, but also learn how to do research and to think independently. Sometimes reading is hard and boring because it’s for studying, but sometimes reading is kind of relaxing. It’s a life style for picking up a book and reading casually. I always see many people reading novels on the bus, but I am so curious how wonderful the books could be to attract the people from beautiful views just outside the window.

Many books are written by knowledgeable people. When we read a book, it looks like we enter the author’s world, and it seems we are in dialogue with the smart people. Every new book is an exotic and exciting adventure for us, but it’s safe for us to experience because it’s just a book. Reading a book is like going on a journey. With reading, we could travel and meet many friends. We could communicate with them, and achieve common ideas with them. Our emotions change with their fates. Moreover, books are a good way to make friends. No matter where we come from, books connect us. We have so many common topics to discuss from the same book. How fantastic it is! We could make friends from both fictional and nonfictional books.

Although there are so many activities in our life, reading is still the trendiest thing. Reading is a great hobby that has lasted for thousands of years. Almost all great people like reading. Reading gives us wisdom, insight and inspiration. Additionally, we could sense peace from reading. Regardless of how trends change, it is safe to say that reading is always a great hobby we should maintain.
