Book’s title: In the Shadow of The Mountain
The most impressive chapter of this book, In the Shadow of The Mountain, is chapter nineteen, The summer place. There were other interesting and mysterious chapters, and I was supposed to be taken by them. However, I just had some personal sensitivity with The summer place.
I watched some Chinese movies that narrated that was the type of love in China around fifty years ago. It was extremely different from Clare and Bruno's love. In fact, I was not talking about love fifty years ago, I just tried to understand what exactly is love. In this world, there is nothing more miraculous than love. Clare and Bruno fell in love so expeditiously that they could decide their future together. In their minds, love was something that they could totally control, and was definitely romantic. They could see each other anywhere and at anytime. No matter how many kisses they had, they just kissed more. Whenever they wanted to marry, they just needed to say:"yes, I do." Even if they were to divorce, they just needed to sign their name on the paper. From falling in love to getting married, all these things were controlled by themselves. In contrast, Chinese people used to marry without their own experience of love. The men and the women who would be become a couple had no any idea about their spouse, because their parents arranged their marriage. All they would do is just marry when the day came. Maybe it sounds very ridiculous and incredible. It was hard to understand how strangers can become husband and wife without love. Certainly, I do not necessary to understand it, because that is too traditional to accept in these days.
We are very lucky. We have choices, and we can choose our husband or wife. We can choose the love we want.
